The Web 2.0 tool that I chose is Evernote. Evernote web is a site that can be used for professional, educational or personal use. It's main function is note taking but there are many sub-features to the website that make it perfect for whatever you're planning to use it for. One of the features of this website that I really like is that it's available on many different devices. As long as you use the same login, you'll be able to use it across your laptop, tablet and phone as you please. Now on to the tutorial. So the first thing you see when you get on to evernote.com is the home page. What you need to do is scroll down to the bottom of this page where you'll then see the sign-up box. Input the email and password you'd like to use for your account and click "sign up for free". Once you've done that, you'll be taken to a new window where a "welcome to Evernote" window will pop up. There's three options to choose from depending on what you're going to be using the website for. The first option is "organize your life", the second option is " be more productive" and the third option is " take better notes". Click on the option that best describes what you're going to be using the website for. It then comes up with another window asking if you want to download Evernote or get a web extension but since I'm explaining how to use the website, just chose the "continue to Evernote Web" option at the bottom. You've now created an Evernote account! Once you've done that, the Evernote website gives you a step by step tutorial on how to take notes, create reminders and everything else you'll need to use the website.
Reflective Response
The five key points I'd share with someone starting planning 10 are: 1. It's harder than you think. When starting planning I thought it'd be a class that would be easy for me but it's proven to be more challenging than I'd originally thought. I'm enjoying it because I like being challenged but I had assumed that I wouldn't have to put much of an effort into it but I turned out to be wrong. 2. Ask questions. If you're finding you've been stuck on something email the teacher, that's what they're there for. I've found that sometimes I get frustrated because I can't figure something out and forget that I have someone that I can ask for clarification from. After emailing the teacher I can get back on track with what I'm doing and save myself lots of time questioning whether or not I've done something correctly. 3. The more effort you put in, the more you get out of the course. If you aren't putting in much of an effort, you probably aren't going to learn that much from the course. Though that seems obvious, it's an interesting course and you'll learn about yourself and things that will help you in the future so you should try to apply yourself to the best of your ability. 4. It's not all about the marks you get. As someone who tends to get very discouraged when they don't get a great mark, this is something I think is important to remind yourself. I tend to give up when I'm not getting the mark I had hoped for but I'm starting to instead, try even harder on the next assignment. I also try to remember that if I tried my hardest and feel I've learned a lot from the course, that's more important in the end. 5. If you do a little bit of work each day, it's a very manageable work load. I constantly find myself leaving things to the last minute which ends up stressing me out and I end up with work I'm not proud of because of it. By doing a small amount of work each day, you end up with a better quality product in the end and also avoid the unnecessary stress that comes with cramming a bunch of work into a small amount of time.
My thoughts on using the Web 2.0 tools: After finishing this unit, I have found that though challenging, it's been quite rewarding. I feel a strong sense of accomplishment now that I've finished this and I am excited to start the next unit. At first I found myself getting frustrated because learning how to use new websites is difficult but as I came to know how to use them, I felt better about it all. I'm not that used to being challenged and for me I find I get angry with myself because I like being good and things but after I actually got into the tools, I started to have fun with it. By the end of this unit I was really enjoying using the Web 2.0 tools and I will keep them in mind when doing future assignments because they turned out to be really fun to use, while also being good means of presentation for the things assigned.
