Describe the benefits of physical activity Physical activity is one of the most important things when it comes to being healthy. Everyone knows it helps you get in to good physical shape but not as many people know the other benefits. One of the biggest benefits of exercise is the effect it has on your mental health. Exercising releases chemicals in your brain, the main ones being endorphins and dopamine, otherwise known as happy chemicals. Happy chemicals do the obvious, make you happier, they help to alleviate stress and improve your overall sense of well-being. So the better your physical health becomes, the better your mental health becomes. The obvious thing that pops into your head when thinking about physical activity is weight loss. When exercising, you're burning calories which then causes you to lose weight. Since being overweight has a bunch of health problems that come with it, it's important to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day to stay healthy. Even if you're at a normal weight simply because of a high metabolism and don't feel you need to exercise, that's not true. Exercise plays a role in keeping your heart and lungs healthy. Since exercising strengthens the muscles in your heart, your heart won't have to beat as fast because it will be able to pump blood around your body more effectively around your body. Which causes a chain effect because the better your blood flow is, the more blood your lungs and organs will be getting.
Health Information & Media Literacy
I am aware of being careful and leaving a good digital footprint that I will not be embarrassed about Leaving a good digital footprint is now important than ever before. Since social media is a relatively new thing, a lot of people aren't aware of the dangers of it. Once you put something on the internet, it can never really be deleted. It may not show up whatever website you're using, but it will be on the internet forever. It's so important to leave behind a good digital footprint because now if you're applying for a job, they're likely to look you up to try and find out more about you before potentially hiring you. Even if it's a picture of you from 5 years ago, you may not get the job because the job you're applying for doesn't hire people like the person you seem to be in the photo. Another danger is the spread of private photos. You may just be sending a picture to someone you trust but they might send it to someone else, who will send it to someone else and the cycle could continue and could end up ruining your life. So if what you're sending to someone, isn't something that you're okay with everyone seeing, don't send it. A good rule of thumb is just to think, if I wouldn't want my parents to see this, I shouldn't send it or post it because they could end up seeing it. Just always remember, don't post something that you aren't okay with it being on the internet forever. Cyberbullying is also an issue when it comes to the internet. People think it's okay to say insulting things to people because they don't have to say it to their face. It's untrue, seeing the comments or texts someone sent you is just as hurtful and someone saying those things to you in person. It's important to remember that others having feelings and will be hurt by what your saying, which is why you should be conscious about what you're sending to someone because you don't know how much of an effect it will have on them.
Healthy Relationships
Communication can make a relationship healthy or unhealthy Communication is a key factor to having a healthy relationship. It can make or break your relationships. It's important to communicate how you feel with others so that you can maintain healthy relationships. Without communication, many relationships would fall apart. Though verbal communication isn't the only form of communication, it's extremely important to verbalize with others when you're upset about something that they did because if you don't they won't know what they've done wrong and won't be able to fix it. There's also body language. Which is a sort of unspoken communication. It often subconsciously done so that even you don't notice when you're doing it. If you can read the body language of others, you'll often know how they're feeling even if they haven't told you. That's why it's so important to tell the people around you how you're feeling so that your relationships with them can remain healthy and happy.
Bullying is/is not a serious problem in your school Bullying is a serious problem in my school. I think the biggest problem is that people genuinely don't believe that they're bullying someone when they clearly are. I've seen multiple people be verbally bullied and when I've confronted the bullies about it, they've told me that they we're just joking around. In my opinion, that's the most concerning part about it. In the movies, the bullies are always so obvious, but in real life, that's not always the case. From an outside observer, bullying doesn't seem like a problem, but when you settle in to the school, it becomes more apparent. For the first 2 weeks that I went to this school, I had no idea that there was any bullying going on because it doesn't seem like it but as you continue going to your classes, you see what's going on. It's different to poke fun at one of your friends but if it's a group of people doing so to someone they barely know, I consider it to be bullying. The worst part of it is that it's all going on in right in front of the teachers eyes. A group of students will all be picking on one student for a semester but unless you pay close attention, it just looks like a group of friends enjoying the class. As the semester goes on though, you see that it's the same group of students "joking around" with student who's being verbally bullied everyday. I've seen students almost in tears because of it and it's all going on right in front of the teachers eye but they don't notice because it just seems like they're having fun. That's why I think that bullying is a problem in my school, as apposed to the popular opinion that it isn't.
Making the Right Choice
Root causes for teens to participate in the use of drugs and alcohol I think that there are a few root causes for why teens participate in the use of drugs and alcohol. There are environmental, genetic and psychological factors that contribute to the use of drugs. I think that the main reason teens turn to drugs is because of mental health problems. Most teens don't realize that they have mental health problems and if they do, they're not likely to seek help because that would involve telling their parents how they've been feeling. So instead of seeking professional help, they chose to self medicate as a kind of escape from what they're feeling. Another reason why teens use drugs and alcohol is because of peer pressure. They may think that nobody will like them anymore if they say no and do it so that they don't lose their friends. There is also a genetic predisposition to drug and alcohol problems. If a family member has problems with substance abuse, you're more likely to develop drug and alcohol problems than someone who doesn't have those genes.
